Cancelled

Crown of Embers Book 1

A galactic network just bought Earth. The stunt double didn't get a script.

Cover of Cancelled: Crown of Embers. A stuntman in a scorched fire suit and a gold circlet stands on fire, giving a thumbs-up with an oven mitt, a sword on his shoulder, while floating cameras circle him.

The show

Wade Kowalski has been set on fire for a living for sixteen years. He's a stunt double. When something goes wrong on set, it goes wrong to him.

Then a galactic streaming network buys Earth, everyone on it included, and casts the whole planet in its shows. Wade wakes up in Crown of Embers, a fantasy epic with a movie-star Chosen One, a villain who has been chewing the scenery for fifteen seasons, and an audience that votes with its eyeballs. Characters who stop being interesting get written out. Shows that miss their numbers get cancelled. Cancelled content is removed from the Network.

Wade isn't the hero. He's the guy who takes the hero's falls, and his only skill does exactly that. The Network doesn't think it's worth screen time.

He has a roll of gaffer tape, an oven mitt and one season to keep everyone he cares about on the air.
